My Ducking Experience

It all started in an all-hands meeting at the company I work for. We were talking through the company initiatives and what the new year would hold. We were talking about dreaming up ideas that could help our customers stay more engaged and a part of our community. All of a sudden someone says “DUCKS”! Often times there is questionable language in meetings, but at the all-hands meeting with owners and every employee of the company. There is no way that someone just spelled that word wrong in the chat with everyone to see right? Right! They were actually talking about ducks. Jeep Ducks!
This was the first time I had heard of such a thing, and to be honest, I still did not know what they were talking about. But a quick Google search produced the info that I needed. You see we are an outdoors retailer for your vehicle. We deal a lot in getting people outside and getting them the tools that they need to have a great time. Actually, we tell ourselves that “we help our neighbors on their journey.” So talking about Jeeps and outfitting Jeeps was not something new, but why with ducks? And that is what Google explained to me. The phenomenon known as “ducking”.
This is how it works. You own a Jeep. Someone likes the look of that Jeep or is just feeling generous. They have a plastic/rubber duck with them. They then leave this duck on the Jeep that they are “ducking”. Once the owner gets out to their Jeep, they see the duck, and display it on their dashboard. Pretty simple concept, but makes a huge impact. I actually own a Jeep and had actually owned 3 Jeeps up until this point. But I had NEVER been ducked before. Maybe my Jeeps just weren’t that cool. But not once? I thought it was crazy.
Well now that I knew about it, I couldn’t help but ponder why I had never received one before. But about two days later…. I got my first ducking. It felt great. It made me feel like I was a part of the club. That someone noticed the little extra work I had put into my Gladiator. It made me proud to put that duck on my dashboard. But then a few days later I saw a Jeep I actually LOVED. I wanted to duck them, but I didn’t have any ducks but the one on my dash. So what did I do? I gave them my duck. But then what? Now was I not part of the club? Was I out? I had to fix this problem.
So I could:
A. Buy a bunch of ducks for me and place them on my dash.
B. Drive around and park at a lot of places to try and get more ducks.
C. Just not give ducks to others when I liked their Jeep.
D. OR I could buy some ducks, and be ready to hand them out.
I chose D. So that may be why you are here. You may have received a duck on your Jeep, read my tag, and found yourself on this post. I say WELCOME! We are so glad that you are here.
